What Makes It Uncommon

The Japanese tradition of kintsugi—meaning "golden joinery"—treats breakage and repair as part of an object's history, not something to hide. Inspired by this unique art form, Emilie Shapiro has crafted these earrings, which are carefully sawn in half, then fused back together with 14k gold, symbolizing strength, beauty, and transformation. Oxidized to enhance the contrast between silver and gold, these lightweight earrings serve as a wearable reminder that challenges shape us into something even more whole.

  • Handcrafted from sterling silver, intentionally broken and repaired with 14k gold to create a striking contrast.
  • Lightweight and comfortable to wear, measuring ¾ W x ¾ H.
  • 14k gold-filled ear wires.
  • Includes a meaningful card explaining the symbolism of kintsugi.
  • Handmade in New York by Emilie Shapiro and a team of female artisans.

Due to the recycled and handmade nature of this item, each is unique and will vary.

A goal is just a dream with a deadline.

There was never a moment that Emilie Shapiro didn't consider herself an artist. "Before I could speak," she says, "I expressed myself through what I made with my hands." While getting her degree in metalsmithing at Syracuse University, she spent a summer at Alchimia Contemporary Jewelry School in Florence, Italy. "I have a massive stone collection that I started when I was two," and to spark inspiration, she says, "I usually pull out my drawers of gems and minerals and something catches my eye."

Beautifully imperfect

Very high quality, simple and elegant.

Love my new earrings

These earrings are delicate and attractive. I look forward to getting compliments when I wear them.

✨ Dainty in size, rich in meaning.

Arriving in a pouch with the maker's story, these delicate earrings instantly felt meaningful and carefully crafted. Handmade in New York by female artisans, they're lightweight, subtle, and full of symbolism—a beautiful reminder of strength and transformation, reflecting my own journey.

Beautiful earrings!

So beautifully made earrings, high quality.

Lovely, but quite petite

Beautifully designed, but the earrings are very small and tend to get hidden by my hair. I love the idea, though, and it is very well executed.

Pretty Earrings

I love the meaning behind these Embrace the Imperfect Kintsugi Earrings—the kintsugi inspiration is beautiful and the design feels unique and uplifting. They're lightweight, comfortable, and easy to wear. Just make sure to double-check the size, as the earrings are a bit smaller than I expected. Overall, they're thoughtfully made and carry a wonderful message of embracing imperfections.
